So my wife brought home a surprise for me today...2 bank file boxes full of Silver/Bronze comics and magazines for me to appraise/grade for one of her clients. I've helped my wife's aunt before who runs an estate sale business get comics ready for a sale giving her broad strokes on condition and how to grade the books, and I've helped out a few friends who have run LCS do the same in the past, but apparently this client knew my wife's aunt and had asked my wife if I would be willing to go through some boxes of comics for him as he runs an auction business and had acquired a collection from somewhere and didn't know where to begin on going about getting it ready for an auction. He had tried going to a couple of lcs in the area who didn't want to look at it or gave him lowball offers to buy it outright, so asked my wife if I would be willing to take a look at them.
I just spent an hour flipping through the collection-the first thing I saw was a Marvel Treasury of Conan laying on top, but I'd say 95% is G-VG range, so mostly reading copies, but there are some interesting books and other items in there as well (a lot of rock memorabilia-posters of Cream, Santana, etc. photos of the Beatles, some 45s like Iron Man/Paranoid by Sabbath, etc.) and comics ranging from Classics Illustrated to the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers and just about everything in between. The only real key I noticed on first glance was a Marvel Spotlight 5-first Ghost Rider. There are a lot of 80 page Giant DC books, a few Silver Amazing Spideys and other classic Marvel titles, a lot of horror anthology books (DC, Marvel, Charlton and Gold Key), a bunch of Marvel Collector's Item Classics, a chunk of National Lampoon, Eerie, Creepy, Cracked, Drag Cartoons, etc.
It's going to take me a while to go through all of it, but I love just riffing through old comics and such, so it should be enjoyable. Some of the things might be a challenge tracking down info on though.
