WB ANNOUNCES DC FILM SLATE THROUGH 2020
I'm not really excited about any of these, mostly due to Man of Steel and the implied promise of Goyer/Snyder being the heads of the DC Cinematic Universe, but I'll remain cautiously optimistic. And I can hold on to the hope that Snyder can't direct them all and Goyer can't write them all.
Probably the one that intrigues me the most Suicide Squad. Other than that, we're just looking at solo movies for Leaguers. Suicide Squade also has the potential of being the least like the other and judging from his credits, David Ayer looks like he could be the right guy for the job.
I'm also excited for SHAZAM. Black Adam is one of my favorite characters and I think he'll be in good hands being portrayed by The Rock. I hope this is another one that takes a more unique tone. More light hearted and focused on the wonder of the superhero universe.
The Flash doesn't inspire me with too much excitement since we have a VERY good interpretation of The Flash on television right now. I'm not entirely sure what they're going to add with the film. I also looked up the actor and I'm not really feeling it. I've never seen him act, so I'll withhold judgment, but he kind of looks like a super hipster, which I'm not fond about for Barry. I'll still go in with an open mind since The Flash is my favorite character, but I'm not thrilled.
One of the interesting things though is that after like 13 Marvel Universe movies, DC is going to be the first one with a female lead. It makes sense with Wonder Woman being the biggest female hero, but Marvel easily could have released a Black Widow movie by 2016. And that wasn't their only option. Marvel has been killing it with obscure characters. They could have easily done a Ms. Marvel movie or something of the sort.
DC is also the first to announce a film with a non-white main character. 2020 is a long way away and I have no doubt that Marvel will release a Black Panther movie before that, but still interesting.
Anyways, lots to discuss!
