March Announcements Over the last few months we have discussed several ideas to help the site grow and to help it cater to the largest possible group of writers. I've decided in order to due this we are going to do two things we have never done before: Elseworlds and Bi-Monthly Deadlines.
Bi-Monthly Deadlines
Everyone here leads a very busy life with lots of responsibility and I feel that the monthly deadline is a challenge for many writers. In order to combat this I want to move us to bi-monthly deadlines or one issue every sixty days. We've already been doing this, but I now want to make it official.
Elseworlds
This is the really big one. This is something we've never done before, but I think makes the site more open and inviting to writers. Elseworlds represent complete freedom. You can choose a point from the history of the DC Universe or you can build an entire universe all your own from scratch. Elseworlds are claim and deadline free. This is our portion of the site that is for complete unbridled creativity where you don't have to bend to fit into the shared sandbox.
Neither of these are set in stone, but I would like to get them into place by no later then next month. So any objections or anything you need clarified please ask.

I prefer multiversity to elseworlds but that's just cause I like the name.
And buck, you still need to respond with whether or not you want both Menageries since the option is there for low tier characters like them.

I like it in theory. we will have to see how it all shakes out in practice, but that's always the trick.
I am good with Elseworlds as the title for the section. I never quite warmed to the name Multiversity anyways, and it's a name, if adhering to Morrison's model, which implies that everything is still interconnected-a number of shared sandboxes rather than a single sandbox being shared, but still everything being shared not standalone, as is the intent behind the move I believe.

So how do you propose on go about setting up an Elseworld title? They are claim and deadline free, but still need an admin to set up the board for them...so you will need some kind of logistics/infrastructure in place...which is kind of what I was referring to in terms of how it all plays out.
Since the target for launch is next month (or so it seems your post is implying), there is time to figure it out, but as long as it takes us to discuss things here and act one them, the ball needs to get rolling sooner rather than later...(not a critique, just acknowledging the reality that we all have hectic lives outside the site that takes time and attention...sigh the perils of adulthood).

I actually already have the format I plan to use for the else worlds "claim". It's very simple:
Title: Subtitle: (Optional) synopsis:
So I lied there is a claim, but just the initial board claim nothing past that. For example
Title: Justice Kids Subtitle: No Grown Ups, No problem. synopsis: When the Justice League is deaged they must come together to set the world right. And The Atom shrinks down to fight the worst virus of all: cooties.

I think that's the wrong way to do this if we intend for the sandbox to be the continued main draw. I'd be disheartened to open the front page and see more "elseworlds" than the UDCU. As things stand now, the main "bending" for shared universe that exists is "Oh no... I can't have this character." If we had half a dozen titles with all them well off the ground, there's more inbuilt framework but we don't. Even if it they're subboards, it's still the same problem in my mind with the added "bi-monthly deadline" causing yet another issue of the concept being unneeded if a person is wanting an ongoing.
Just create a single board and the posting will come. If the posting comes to the point where a single storyline needs a sub-board then go ahead to create one if and when it's needed. These are not supposed to be ongoings. If they were, hell, I'd have to argue with myself over dropping Arrow altogether so I can have the "Wachterverse" I've been accused of by wanting to write my secondary titles without being held accountable by a tedious rule and an idiotic claiming process that forcibly holds you back from posting new issues. The only reason I wouldn't is because I LIKE the shared universe but it'd be a long, hard debate.
TL:DR: Just make one board. Possibly two (second for discussion). Sub-boards come into play if you start to get a decent amount of issues of a continuous story.

For me anyways, the main draw was always the community of writers not the shared sandbox-the shared sandbox was something I had to endure to work in the community, not a draw. The claims hoops and the constant wrangling about characters sucked the fun out of the endeavor not enhanced it, especially when you made concessions about characters only to see the title dropped or the writer disappear shortly afterwards and you were left holding a bag you never wanted to begin with but were stuck with because you tried being a good citizen to make it all work.
Having a shared sandbox for those who want it, and an area for others to write who don't makes the overall community more appealing to me, but that's just one opinion.

It's the price we pay but this isn't fanfiction.net or any number of other sites where the point is that you write in a vacuum and pray someone will click on you with a hopeful review and it's not really a community either. It's four dudes with hanging hopes that something (Elseworlds for example) might make this site worthy of sticking around for. We may know each other and we may think that reviews are happening but as you constantly brought up in the other evaluation topic, we need to think about what this site is.
This site IS The Ultimate DCU. Everything else is just optional. I may complain about the rules and the restrictions but they define what this place is. And with the continuity always being a shifting thing in this new place in terms of the "sandbox" where it may be replaced should someone drop and there only being two active people, your complaints that someone will vanish are somewhat invalid. The Claims hoops have also vanished for the most part. I have characters that I wouldn't have been able to get on the old site. There is really only one hoop now and that's you can't have two Major Justice League members or popular characters in a single title. (And to lesser extent having to wait a month before getting more but that's just my pet peeve.)

I'm going to be short and sharp -
Bi-Monthly? This is beneficial when I have a bad month, or when work comes along and 13 hours in a working day is just not long enough.
Elseworlds, I see the benefits, I see the problems. My only comment is this - If it keeps people on the site, and keeps people writing, then do it. Be it with the claims option, or without.
The point of the site, is to create an Ultimate version of the DC Universe. If there are Elseworld wrinkles in it, so be it. The main thing is that the site is alive.

Ultimately, it's what I agree with and hell part of the reason I made sure it was brought up in the evaluation topic. My comments are me being me which as we know is part Devil's Advocate, part Giant Arse.

If and when the Elseworlds process is finalized, I would like to do something using the old DC title Weird Worlds. I've started blocking out a prose story that would be a feature, but I am also experimenting with some other storytelling forms that I may use. If you do decide on the no claims, no deadline route, I am going to make the title a bit of an anthology to explore some corners of the DC milieu that might not jibe well with a mainstream DCU, some of it serialized, some of it standalone-the plan is to have each "issue" be bi-monthly, but post various pieces as they are done and ready over that two month span so there will be some kind of new content going up more often than bi-monthly. The serialized stuff though may only get one installment each "issue" until I get my feet under me and see how I withstand the pace. So as a place holder until the process is finalized and any adjustments I need to make are done...
Title: Weird Worlds Subtitle: Explore worlds of adventure...
I don't expect to have anything ready before April, so no rush on this, but wanted to put it out there that I do want to take part in the Elseworlds experiment if you move forward with it.

Thanks Buck, appreciate it.
By any change, would it be possible to have a sub-board set up?
Alternatively, are you able to make the Neon Bible a "Sticky" Thread? Just so it is at the top of the threads, so it doesn't get lost in the five hundred issues I intend to write....

Okay, I think I'm ready to put my hat back in the ring. I've been testing out a lot of properties and even thought about continuing JSA, but doing a period piece was super exhausting. I just could only write when I was in the mood, which is never good...
But anyways, the one that worked out the best for me long term was The Flash!
Ultimate Flash Heroes: The Flash (Barry Allen) Villains: Professor Zoom, Captain Cold, Weather Wizard, Mirror Master (Evan McCulloch), Heat Wave, The Trickster (James Jesse), Golden Glider, Cicada, Gorilla Grodd, The Top Undefined: Psycho Pirate (Roger Hayden), The Shade, Pied Piper, Johnny Quick (John Chambers) Support: Jay Garrick, Wally West, Elongated Man (Ralph Dibny), Max Mercury, Jesse Quick Wallpaper: Central City and Keystone City Police Departments (Fred Chyre, Jared Morillo, David Singh, Joe & Julie Jackam, Patty Spivot, Frye, James Forrest, Hotchkiss), Iris West, Joe West, Joan Garrick, Tina McGee, Jerry McGee, Daphne Dean, Fiona Webb, Linda Park, Gregory Wolf, Meloni Thawne

So we have moved past March and into April, and I am wondering how y'all are going to handle doing the Elseworlds title claims/announcements. I's starting to put stuff to paper in draft form now and want to have stuff ready to go by the end of the month/start of May but need to know what I will need to do to get the boards/titles ready to go in terms of logistics, admin, etc.
